Dr. Alfred Cheng examined my teeth condition and advised that i can do without any extractions. However, i pointed out to him that i would like to get rid of this sensitive upper pre-molar as it has been bothering me for months. So he said " Ok, we can do that for you. But you have to extract the other 3 tooth to make it balanced". The moment i heard " 3 other tooth", i literally gave this O.O on my face. Do not know what courage got into me at that point that i agreed and proceeded with 4 extractions.
Dr. Alfred Cheng's clinic does not perform any extractions. I was referred to Dr. Wee Tze Haur from The Oral Maxillofacial Practice for extractions. The whole extraction process was a breeze except that the injections of anaesthesia was slightly painful. I will be dued for fitting my braces on a week after extractions.
BRACES ON
Due to work commitments, I am only available for appointments on Saturday. As such, Dr. Wee was allocated instead of Dr. Alfred Cheng as advised he don't perform long consultation during weekend. The whole process of fitting told about half an hour to 45 minutes.
Dr. Wee will polish your teeth to make sure it's clean and dry in order for the adhesive cement bond to be applied. Afterwhich, each individual bracket will be applied with dental cement and cured with a light tills it hardened for each tooth. An archwire will be threaded between the brackets and affixed with elastic ligatures. Ligatures are available in a wide variety of colours and that's when you are able to choose which colours for your braces. There are so many colours to choose from that i am always spoilt for choices. All the colours are so pretty.
Towards the end, Dr. Wee will deliver a brief explanation on how you should brush and take care of your teeth during braces.
Cannot express how excited I am with braces on though it feels kind of weird with all the metal parts in your mouth. Refrain from moving your tongue ( i know most of us would did that out of curiosity) around the brackets and wire as they are relatively sharp which may cut your tongue. Dental wax will be provided and should you feel any sharp edges, you may stick them on temporary and arrange an appointment with the clinic to get them trimmed. I do experienced wires poking and ulcers during the process, guessed it's normal. You will eventually get used to it. :)
